Who Am I?

Author's Note: This piece is a prediction for the book Found by Margaret Peterson Haddix

Was there ever a time in your life when you didn’t know who you were? In the Prologue of the book Found, by Margaret Peterson Haddix, Angela DePure and Monique Walters are Gate Agents for the Sky Trails airport.  Angela saw a plane appear at a closed gate, and when she went to check it, she saw that there was a baby in each seat. Thirteen years later she meets two adopted boys named Jonah and Chip. (Angela soon realized that Chip and Jonah were not adopted into the same family.)They believe that they were on the same plane that had the babies on it, and she shares her theory of the plane being a time machine. She thinks the boys were adults from the future that agreed to be in an experiment for a plane that moves faster than the speed of light, and how she needs their help to discover more. I think that the kids will agree to help Angela, even though they think her theory is kind of crazy.

Jonah and Chip will probably help Angela, because they are so desperate to find out who they are. When Jonah, Katherine and his parents met with FBI Agent James Reardon, he refused to tell them any more information about Jonah’s birthparents. Mr. Reardon told Jonah and his family that Jonah might have been involved in a baby smuggling ring. That wasn’t really what Jonah was worried about. He was more worried about why Mr. Reardon couldn’t give any more information, and what he was hiding from them.

If the boys don’t help her there is no one else for them to turn to. Angela is the only one who saw what she saw, and all of the other people signed a paper saying they would not go public with the information. Monique Waters, saw the plane disappear after the babies were taken off the plane, but when she found that no one was going to believe her, she went with what the FBI had made up. Also, Angela is the only person who would believe that Jonah and Chip aren’t crazy or playing a prank.

This story reminds me of the Harry Potter series. Just like Harry in the first book, Jonah and Chip don’t know who their parents are, or who they are. In the Harry Potter series, Harry and his friends encounter some crazy things. When they would go to tell others, people wouldn’t believe them. In Found, Jonah’s parents don’t believe him when he comes to them about someone snooping through his room. While Chip’s parents, didn’t even tell him he was adopted until last summer. Jonah and Chip’s parents are complete opposites that are extremely alike. Jonah’s parents are so overprotective that they won’t believe Jonah. Where on the other hand Chip’s parents won’t believe him because they don’t care.

I think that Jonah and Chip will agree to help Angela, and find more about themselves. If they don’t they would have to just forget about everything they learned already, and after all they’ve been through it would be a waste to just pretend it never happened.
