A Thanks to our Founding Fathers

Author's Note: This piece is a essay on the Founding Fathers of the United States.

The founding fathers are very important to the history of the United States, and were named as such by the public because of their accomplishments. Eight men are considered to be the founding fathers: George Washington, James Madison, John Jay, Samuel Adams, Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, Alexander Hamilton, and Benjamin Franklin. These eight men led America through battles for freedom. Their overall goal was to gain independence from England for the thirteen colonies of the United States.

Upon winning the Revolutionary War, they formed the first government. This government is essentially what we have today. The founding fathers are most known for their creation of the most important U.S. document, the Declaration of Independence. In 1776, the Declaration of Independence was being written from the 11th of June, to the 28th of June. Although its true author was Thomas Jefferson, before he presented it to the Second Continental Congress, he showed it to John Adams and Benjamin Franklin. They edited and revised the piece before it was shown to the congress on July 1st, where more revisions were made. On July 4th, 1776,  the delegates met in the Pennsylvania State House, and approved the Declaration of independence.  After being signed by 56 different officials, all representing different states, including our founding fathers, the document was sent to John Dunlap’s print shop to be printed. Supposedly, there were 200 copies made, and 25 are said to still exist today.

In the Declaration of Independence, they included many things that they found to be important. It was the foundation for many of the freedoms we have today. In the United States, the people have the power to choose a person from their region to represent them in the country’s various levels of government. These representatives make political decisions for the people that have elected them. All U.S. citizens, 18 or older and not convicted of serious crimes, have the right to vote for their choice. We as a country have the freedom of religion, meaning you can believe in anything, or you can believe in nothing. The government cannot interfere with organized religions. It doesn't matter what your race or color is, everyone is treated equally.  You can choose whatever career you want, no matter who you are, and there are so many choices to choose from too. The same goes for education. It doesn't matter who you are, you have the right to go to school. It’s actually even a law that you have to be learning. If that means home-schooling, or being in the actual school building, you must be learning. So then you choose whatever path it is you want to take to your career choice.

Our Founding Fathers are not recognized as much as they should be. They fought in battles for our freedom. Some people thought they were crazy for trying to do something so dangerous, but thanks to their bravery, the Declaration of Independence was passed, and we are free.
